"Yoga was the key to the puzzle!"

Natasha Bureau's Weight Loss Story of Change

 



I am 35 years old and have been struggling with a weight problem for the past seven years. After a multitude of surgeries, I had gained nearly 90 pounds. The surgeries alone had limited my mobility for over a year and the scar tissue caused so much pain when just trying to do simple sitting up or bending.

I had tried many diet/exercise programs, none of which helped. I even joined a gym and went to a nutritionist and used the personal trainer at the gym to help with the problems, but no matter how hard I worked out I couldn‘t lose a single pound.

I knew I had a weight problem, but with my restricted movement there seemed to be nothing I could do about it. Then in January 2004 my sister sent me a picture of myself with her and my mom. I was disgusted with myself and determined to change things starting immediately!









At work that week, my friend Dr. Jen Holm suggested Gaiam yoga videos. She said she’s been doing yoga for many years and loves these videos. I had tried a yoga video from a different company once and hated it, but I figured it was worth a shot. I went to the book store that night and bought a book called “the 30 Day Total Health Makeover” by Marilu Henner, went to the Gaiam website and ordered my first real yoga video,  Yoga for Weight Loss with Suzanne Deason.

I used the information in the “30 Day Makeover” book to help identify what foods were preventing me from losing weight and to tailor a program that would work for me in my everyday life.

Yoga for Weight Loss was the key to the puzzle! After using this video every day for several weeks, I was able to gently stretch my stomach without pain, and then move on to more advanced yoga instruction. I am now able to actually do sit ups without feeling like my stomach is being shredded from the inside from scar tissue.

I now alternate daily between aerobics and yoga, and consult my “30 Day” book for any nutritional questions I have. I now have Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Seane Corn, Power Yoga with Rodney Yee, A.M. and P.M. Yoga with Rodney Yee and Patricia Walden, and Yoga for Meditation — and love them all!

On January 11, 2004 I weighed 189 pounds and wore size 20 jeans. I am barely 5 feet tall. I am now at 114 lbs and my jeans are size 4. I had to take some time to just let you all know how grateful I am for all of the information you have provided me in my success of losing 75 pounds!
