I would like to find something that will relieve my allergies without all the harmful side effects.  I am tired of being all foggy when I take my medications.  I would like to find something safe and natural that will not leave me in a fog.  Does anyone know of anything that could help?

Try using a neti pot in the morning and evening.  It is fantastic!  Also, homeopathic meds for allergies are good, plenty of fluids, bathing at night (if the culprit is pollen) and trying to minimize exposure to allergen. Good luck!

There is alot of things that you can do to reduce your allergy issues. One of which reducing your allergens in your home.  Buying a humidifier will help with that.  Making sure that there is not mold and mildew in your home.  There is a product called claritose that also helps reduce and relieve allergies.  I have not tried it but have known of people who use it.  It is a good alternative to medicine.  I hope this helps you good luck.

Since 2002 I am suffering with yeararound allergy. I got asthma, plus I get allergic reaction from allergy medicines. Six weeks ago I tried acai berry juice, after 2 weeks I start to feel that I was energized, no headache, sleep trough the night, no runny nose. I got stereoid nosespray ($120) for years, Oxy spray for my asthma etc. I get tired of medicines, I tryed acupuncture, acupressure etc, you named I done it. Now I feel good, energized and healthy. My experience this juce is helping me, more than any other treatment.

Cleansing your sinuses and acai berry juice are excellent recommendations.
Some folks I know (myself included) experienced gentle allergy relief (from hay fever) when taking the tincture "stinging nettle".  It's very gentle and quite effective with no reported side effects (however please take as directed).
The only cautions I know of is to make sure your not allergic to nettles (like you would before taking any new supplement) or while your pregnant or nursing.

I suffered with alleriers for years which progressively became worse until I woke up one spring when the olive trees just outside my apartment were in full bloom along with my eyes, my nose - my allergies, swollen, runny and total head fog.  I couldn't even go to work, and yes I had tried everything  Doctors had not helped until I found a holistic naturopathic physcian and went in that afternoon!  He explained the cycle occuring with allergy (ies) then advised me on how to stop the reaction, rebalance the body and boost my immunity.  We are all unique.  The advise I was given was to stop all sugar.  This was including fruit, honey and by all means, the white stuff. Drink clear herbal tea, green ok too, and pure water only, none or little dairy, no nuts, or raw stuff. Cooked vegetables, fish, brown rice, whole grains. Elimate anything white (highly processed) from the diet. Really, just a good diet. ( I had been eating lots of fruit, nuts, raw veggies etc thinking that was good for me, turned out not good for allergies.  Eventually you can after the reactions stop and are under control.  He also provided me with high quality multi vitamin, powdered C, a Biflavonoid,  a B-12 , stinging nettles and tiny bits of bee pollen along with a homeopathic allergy relief complex. It did the trick. For the first time in 7 years, I could fully through both nostrils.  I not on anything for life, the next time I saw him. His advise was eat well, take care of yourself, and do yoga! and remember your body knows what it needs to do, allow it to do what it needs to. My advise is to find a good doctor whose adice makes good sense to you.  Kris

I have suffered from allergies for 20 years.  I did some research on what allergies actually are.  An immune system that is mostly contained in your digestive tract that is not working properly from the diet that has been forced upon us by grocery stores and restaurants.  One ,we are not getting enough omega-3s.  And also keeping the good bacteria in your digestive tract.  Caused a lot by all the corn-processed foods we eat - 99% of what is chain grocery stores!  I have done 3 things which have made my allergies go away!  Eat flax seed (ground is the most effective way to get the omega-s out of it!) and natural yogurt (make sure there are no corn-processed products in it, such as corn syrup!) - Fage greek yogurt is very good - I actually make my own.  But then I also cleanse my nasal passages with a neti pot daily.  This combination daily has relieved me of 20 years of progressively worsening allergies that had become active year round.  I was at wits end & did not want to take meds.  I would have tried anything and with a little research and some trial and error and facts as to how our foods are made, what causes allergies and how to improve my immune system - mostly that in my digestive tract, I am the happiest I have been since I can remember.  I do believe the majority of allergies can be fixed by changing your diet - keep in mind processed foods have been increasing since I was born in the 70's - I did not know one person who had family memeber swith allergies when I was very young.  Now I barely know anyone who doesn't!!!!  If you research the way foods have changed in the past 30 years this will all make sense!

That's very interesting. In the past year or so I've totally cleaned up my diet of processed foods, dairy, and sugar. My hope is that this allergy season will be better than previous springs, but so far it's the same. I wonder if 1 year isn't long enough to turn your whole body around?

I started using oral sprays from a company called King Bio. He actually makes regional formulas (for allergens in your area) and they are homeopathic with no taste or side effects and you can through right in whatever bag you're taking for the day (you may have to order these direct from the company, but it's worth it). I also clean my nose out with a saline spray everyday from the drug store (I tried the neti pot and other nasal washes, but I have large sinus cavities and found them to be a little painful) and use an allergy nose gel from Zicam (they have a lot of cold products too that work great. Their products can be found at local drug stores). For my eyes I use allergy eye drops from Similason (which are homeopathic. I got mine at a health food store). I drink chamomile green tea during an actual attack to desensitize myself and any other green tea at least once a day (usually in the morning). I also found that right before bedtime, putting cold, wet cloths on my eyes kept down the swelling at night (my eyes swell shut at night, but no other time). I also watch what I eat, as I've noticed certain ingredients make my allergies flare up. I will be starting to go to my naturopath next week, so we'll see if she recommends anything else. She did tell me that certain eye issues can be linked to a sluggish liver, so she has me on a liver detox product. Everyone is different, so don't give up right away if you try something that doesn't work for you but worked for someone else.

‘Sacred travel’ lets you re-create yourself at spiritual hotspots

Love to travel but no longer content with South Beach or Vail? There is another option available. A number of years ago, I wanted a trip that was based on personal growth and discovery. Today this is called “sacred travel.” (Back then it was about taking my savings and heading out with a backpack.) I first [...]

One flight = HOW much CO2?! Slashing my holiday footprint …

I did the math in my head. We have one car that barely gets driven, a TV and DVD player that get unplugged when not in use, plus a diet free of meat — and I have to admit that I was feeling a bit overconfident when I plugged my numbers into the carbon calculator [...]

How to make fabric gift bags

A website I visited recently recommended knitting holiday stockings. What a lovely idea, I thought. But I’d have to remember how to knit … I think I’ll just buy some “homespun” stockings instead. Yet there is a simple project I did one year for the holidays that was very rewarding in the same way [...]

Detoxing after the holiday “re-tox” — no matter how much carnage was left on that Thanksgiving dinner table, or how much stress crept into your weekend — is as easy as unrolling your mat. Stairs till you drop! Mall shoppers are stepping up

I recently read an article about a mall in England that posted colorful, stand-out signs by the escalator/stairs in the mall last Christmas to encourage and inspire shoppers to take the stairs instead of the escalators. The article noted that “normally, about 4 percent of people at the mall take the stairs but after adding [...]

Stressed? Don’t work out longer; just shake things up

Many people think that tons of rigorous workouts help relieve stress. But research shows that it can actually have the opposite effect. Changing up your routine can ease stress more effectively than doing MORE of the same. You can change your workout routine in many ways including … When doing fat-burning workouts, change the settings, machine or [...]

How gratitude can transform your body

Thinking about Thanksgiving prompted me to write this blog. I saved it to my computer planning to enter it online as soon as I got a chance. Then coincidently I heard a radio interview with psychologist Robert Emmons, author of a book called Thanks. Emmons has spent years studying positive psychology, and in the interview [...]
